  • Disney's Halloween Festival - Paris
    2016-10-01 – 2016-11-02
Disney's Halloween Festival has become an annual staple of the Disneyland Park calendar. Returning every year with new twists, turns and artistic decisions, the most recent years have seen the festival finally find a stable footing with higher quality decorations and entertainments. This year, the success of Disney's live-action Maleficent film has not been ignored, with new events centred around the timelessly formidable character and her fellow "Halloween Gang" of animated Disney villains. Alongside another new, original float in the main cavalcade and an expanded Nightmare Before Christmas meet 'n' greet area, this makes the 2014 Disney's Halloween Festival perhaps the strongest season in its history and a real must-visit. Even if you've already seen Disneyland Paris this year, you've not seen it quite like this

  • Swiss Carnival celebrations - Switzerland
    2016-01-31 – 2016-05-31
That's the time when the reserved Swiss get a bit crazy :) I've compiled a list of the most impressive ones. The Swiss Carnival is called "Fasnacht". And as it is custom in our neck of the woods, Fasnacht can differ from town to town. Over 200 carnivals take place throughout Switzerland, and though traditionally most last from Dirty Thursday to Ash Wednesday, some of them are celebrated anywhere between end of January and May. In fact, the largest Swiss carnival in Basel breaks with the tradition too and starts on Monday following Ash Wednesday.

Parades, lion dances and temple worshipping to celebrate the lunar new year, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. Symbolically, new clothes are usually worn to signify the new year and homes are thoroughly cleaned to sweep away any ill-fortune. Families visit one another, with little red packets, or “hong bao”, filled with money, gifted to children. During this time, the streets come alive with the sound of traditional music, the sight of hanging red lanterns and the aroma of food stalls set up in various neighbourhoods. Event cost: Free.
